Garage Door Spring Installation Guides

Follow these detailed instructions to safely replace your garage door torsion springs.

Preparation

  • Tools Required: Ladder, wrenches (7/16" & 9/16"), vice grips, tape measure, safety glasses, gloves, winding bars.

Safety First

  • Always wear safety glasses, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
  • Use only the provided winding bars. Never use screwdrivers.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Removing Old Springs: Disconnect the opener, lock the door, carefully unwind existing springs with winding bars.
  2. Installing New Springs: Identify springs (left-red, right-black), slide onto the torsion tube, secure drums, and tighten set screws.
  3. Tensioning Springs: Insert winding bars fully, carefully turn upward, and securely tighten set screws.
  4. Balancing and Testing: Remove clamps, manually test door balance, and adjust as necessary.
  5. Final Checks and Lubrication: Lubricate hinges and rollers, check hardware security, and verify cable alignment.
